Coos County celebrates new access to Fidium’s fiber network through grant partnership
Communities receive 'Gig Town' designation as all-fiber network brings reliable connectivity and multi-gig speeds to more than 20,000 homes and businesses
COOS COUNTY, N.H. — June 19, 2026 — With the completion of a partnership between Fidium and the State of New Hampshire, more than 20,000 homes and businesses across Coos County now have access to all-fiber connectivity that brings reliable, multi-gig speed internet to the region.
State officials, regional business and community leaders gathered at the Coos Economic Development Corporation's annual Business Leaders of Coos (BLOC) Awards to commemorate the achievement with a ribbon cutting ceremony. As part of the celebration, Coos County communities received the 'Gig Town' designation, recognizing widespread access to gig-speed connectivity.
"This achievement is an economic game changer for Coos County,” said Carol Miller, director of Broadband Initiatives at the National Collaborative for Digital Equity and Economy. “Our communities have broadband access now and the future with new network fiber connectivity and gig-speed capabilities. Increased access and speed supports remote work opportunities, education, telemedicine, and government services while positioning businesses to compete globally. What's remarkable is that this came through genuine collaboration between the federal and state government, municipalities and service providers with every town committed, every stakeholder invested turning barriers into opportunity. This will support our digital economy for the next 50 years.”
Coos County's all-fiber network is the result of collaboration between Fidium and the State of New Hampshire. The project was supported in part by broadband grants awarded to Fidium to close the digital divide in unserved and underserved communities.
“Expanding fiber connectivity is about putting New Hampshire on the map as a place where businesses can grow, families can thrive, and innovation can flourish,” said Matt Conserva, Broadband Initiative Manager for the New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs. “This milestone demonstrates what can be accomplished through strong public-private partnerships and reflects our commitment to ensuring every region of the state has the tools to succeed in today's economy.”
High-speed fiber connectivity positions Coos County to attract remote workers, support small business growth and entrepreneurship, and create economic development opportunities. Research shows that fiber broadband access drives business formation, increases real estate values, and attracts workforce talent to rural communities – creating a foundation for long-term regional prosperity.
"Fiber unlocks potential, making it an equalizer for communities like Coos County,” said Sarah Davis, vice president of Market Development for Fidium. “We're delivering generational infrastructure that is scalable and designed to support future technological innovation. Every mile we build creates opportunity, connecting residents and businesses to the launchpad for their version of the American Dream. We're delivering what you need today and the foundation you can trust for decades to come.”
More than 400,000 homes and businesses in New Hampshire can now benefit from Fidium’s future‑ready speeds, delivered to communities across the state over its more than 17,500‑mile all‑fiber network. In Coos County, this includes Berlin, Dalton, Dummer, Errol, Gorham, Jefferson, Lancaster, Milan, Northumberland, Pittsburg, Randolph, Shelburne, Stark, Stratford, Wentworth’s Location, and Whitefield, with additional locations across the county to be connected soon.
Fidium has been named one of the Top 10 Providers for Real‑World Speeds by BroadbandNow and earned CNET’s Best Internet Providers recognition across its service area, including New Hampshire. Fiber network access means fast, symmetrical upload and download capability, along with enhanced reliability and lower latency compared to cable and other connection types. This enables remote work, supports cloud-based business applications, powers telehealth and virtual education, and provides capacity for future needs.
