Fidium launches next‑generation fiber internet with speeds up to 8 Gig with WiFi 7 in Laconia, N.H.

Laconia among the first New Hampshire communities to access new 5‑Gig and up to 8‑Gig fiber speeds

LACONIA, N.H. — April 21, 2026 — Fidium today announced the expansion of its all‑fiber internet network in Laconia, making the city one of the first communities in New Hampshire to gain access to Fidium’s new 5-Gig and up to 8-Gig fiber internet plans, paired with next-generation WiFi 7 technology.

The launch brings future‑ready, fiber‑to‑the‑home (FTTH) connectivity to Laconia residents and businesses, delivering symmetrical multi‑gig speeds designed to support today’s most bandwidth intensive uses – from remote work and online learning to streaming, gaming, smart‑home systems and emerging AI‑powered applications.

New ultra‑high‑speed connectivity for Laconia

As one of the first markets to offer these new service tiers, Laconia customers can now experience Fidium’s fastest residential internet speeds, along with WiFi 7, the latest generation of wireless technology designed to deliver multi‑gig performance across every connected device.

“High-speed fiber internet is an essential infrastructure for modern communities,” said Jeff McIver, senior manager of government affairs for Fidium. “By bringing our new 5-Gig and up to 8-Gig fiber service with WiFi 7 to Laconia, we’re helping ensure residents and businesses have the capacity, reliability and in-home performance they need – not just today, but well into the future.”

Fidium’s 8‑Gig fiber service can be up to 120 times faster than typical cable internet, offering significantly lower latency and more consistent performance than legacy networks originally built for television, not today’s internet‑driven demands.

Fidium representatives will be visiting the community in the coming weeks to share information about service availability and plan options and to connect directly with homes and businesses that now have access to fiber service.

Raising the bar for connectivity in the Lakes Region

Fidium’s investment in Laconia is part of its broader commitment to strengthening New Hampshire’s digital infrastructure. More than 400,000 homes and businesses statewide are now eligible for service across Fidium’s 17,000‑mile all‑fiber network, which delivers faster upload and download speeds, lower latency and greater reliability than traditional cable or DSL technologies.

The addition of WiFi 7 ensures customers can fully experience the benefits of multi‑gig fiber speeds throughout their home or workplace – supporting dozens of devices simultaneously while enabling new technologies and more seamless digital experiences.

Fiber’s impact on communities

Fiber-to-the-home networks deliver long-term benefits for local communities, including improved educational outcomes, expanded access to telehealth, and increased economic opportunity for remote workers and small businesses.

Studies show fiber connectivity can increase business growth by 213% and contribute to a 44% increase in GDP. Fiber access has also been linked to a 10% increase in self‑employment and an 18% rise in per‑capita income, while homes with fiber service have been shown to see an estimated 4.9% higher property value.

For businesses, hyper-speed fiber enables improved productivity, reduced operating costs, and the adoption of advanced tools. With support for emerging technologies, including AI, fiber broadband positions businesses to better meet their goals and remain competitive.
