Fidium and Portsmouth Chamber Collaborative celebrate city's Gig Town designation
Portsmouth already had the waterfront and Market Square. Now it has a Gig Town title too.
On Sept. 30, Fidium and the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth held a ribbon cutting at Stroll Café to recognize Portsmouth’s access to high-speed, all-fiber internet and its Gig Town designation. Brian Dorton, director of Consumer Sales for Fidium; Nate Hastings, vice president of the Chamber Collaborative; and Jeff McIver, senior manager of Government Affairs for Fidium, cut the ribbon.
What the title celebrates
The designation reflects widespread access in Portsmouth to next-generation fiber internet over an all-fiber network built for fast, reliable connectivity. It also celebrates the new speeds and service availability Fidium announced earlier this year, including speeds up to 8 Gig paired with WiFi 7. The speeds are symmetrical, so uploads keep pace with downloads, which supports remote work, education, telehealth and small business growth.
Zooming out
More than 400,000 homes and businesses across New Hampshire can now access Fidium’s fiber, delivered over a network of more than 17,500 miles of all-fiber. Portsmouth residents and businesses can check availability at FidiumFiber.com.
