Laconia, N.H. officially named a Gig Town
Some cities get a ribbon cutting. Laconia got a ribbon cutting, an oversized check and an official title: Fidium “Gig Town.”
At a ceremony at Laconia City Hall, hosted with the Lakes Region Area Chamber of Commerce, community leaders, local partners and residents celebrated the city’s connection to Fidium’s fiber network. Mayor Mike Bordes joined city councilors, city staff and the Fidium team for the occasion.
Fidium’s fastest speeds, now in Laconia
Fidium completed its fiber network launch to Laconia homes and businesses earlier this year. That brought 5 Gig and up to 8 Gig symmetrical speed tiers, along with Wi-Fi 7 technology. Symmetrical means upload speeds match download speeds, which helps with remote work, online classes, telehealth visits and small business growth.
“Reliable broadband access is fundamental infrastructure,” Mayor Bordes said.

And now, the pumpkins
Fidium also presented a $1,000 sponsorship check for the Laconia Pumpkin Festival. City Councilor Bob Soucy accepted it and said he hopes to see 20,000 to 25,000 people at this year’s event.
Pumpkinfest runs Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and 24, with food vendors, crafts, free movie viewings, train rides, live music and the downtown social district.
More fiber across New Hampshire
Fidium fiber is now available to more than 400,000 homes and businesses across New Hampshire. Laconia residents and businesses can check availability at FidiumFiber.com.
