Bridgton Celebrating Gig Town Status at Maine Lakes Winter Carnival

BRIDGTON, Maine — Feb. 13, 2024 — Local officials, business leaders and community members will celebrate Bridgton's new recognition as a 'Gig Town' on Saturday during the annual Maine Lakes Winter Carnival. Gig Towns are communities with broad access to multi-gigabit fiber internet for residents and businesses and is awarded to towns by Fidium Fiber.

Bridgton has attained this distinction as the result of the recent completion of Fidium's all-fiber network, now available to more than 2,200 local homes and businesses. With its new fiber network now serving the community, Bridgton can benefit from the economic, educational, employment and entertainment benefits that accompany better internet access.

The celebration will include remarks by Angela Cook, executive director for Greater Bridgton Chamber of Commerce, Brian Dorton, consumer sales director for Fidium Fiber, as well as other representatives from the community and local organizations. Photo opportunities will be available throughout the event, with individual interviews immediately following the ceremony.

Fiber construction in Bridgton was completed at the end of 2023, and the town is ready to celebrate new opportunities.
