Residents and business owners in Jay, Livermore Falls, Wilton and parts of Dixfield, Fayette and Chesterville will have access to multi-gigabit, symmetrical internet service from Fidium fiber in 2024.

Bennington County became one of the first counties in Vermont where universal broadband access is within reach. The Southern Vermont Communications Union District and Fidium Fiber held a ceremony at Bromley Mountain on Aug. 8 to mark the moment.

Eric Hatch, SoVT CUD chairman joined Cat Viglienzoni (WCAX) to discuss how his CUD will be the first in the state to reach universal service coverage this November. and what it means for Vermonters.

The Southern Vermont CUD (SoVT CUD) celebrated the region’s future during a ribbon cutting, announcing the region as Gig Community.

 “They said it couldn’t be done. They didn’t know Southwestern Vermont.” That's how U.S. Sen. Peter Welch summed up the results being celebrated Tuesday at Bromley Mountain by the Southern Vermont Communications Union District and Consolidated Communications Inc.

Fidium Fiber’s multi-gig speed internet service is now available to even more homes and businesses in the Illinois communities of Arcola, Litchfield and Shelbyville.

Nicollet’s residents and businesses can now access multi-gig internet speeds from Fidium, the new fiber internet service from Consolidated Communications, and all the economic, educational, employment and entertainment benefits that go along with it.

“Fidium is bringing the best internet experience to Mainers, and I’m excited for the Ellsworth community,” said Sarah Davis, vice president of government affairs for Consolidated. “Better access to reliable, high-speed internet is a game changer, opening doors to new opportunities for residents of all ages.”
