It took a long time for high-speed internet to reach Great Diamond Island and its slightly southwestern counterpart, Little Diamond Island. When funding was approved last spring to bring fiber optic technology to the communities’ 255 or so residents, the news was greeted with jubilation.

The availability of high-speed internet has become one of the driving factors in attracting new residents to settle in the Monadnock region, giving some towns a competitive advantage for people who work or attend school remotely.

Access to high speed Internet access is expanding in the Androscoggin Valley with service soon to be available to more than 8,300 homes in Berlin, Gorham, Randolph, and Shelburne. idium Fiber is installing the new lines and constructing the fiber network now.

Fidium, a fiber internet service, is now available to residents in Fairfax and Fletcher.  More than 2,200 area homes and businesses can now access Fidium’s multi-gig speed fiber internet service and enjoy a high-speed broadband connection. 

Fidium Fiber, a brand from Consolidated Communications Holdings, Inc, have announced they will be expanding their services to more than 6,800 homes and businesses in Livermore, Wilton, Chesterville, Dixfield, Fayette and Jay regions.

The Southern Vermont Communications Union District (SoVT CUD) is marking becoming “one of the first CUDs in the state to reach universal service coverage.”

Recent Fidium Fiber expansion in Colchester, Vt. has lowered the state’s last count of “unserved” and “underserved” addresses in Colchester by 35%, leaving 66 addresses remaining “unserved” or “underserved.”

More than 11,000 homes and businesses in the Skowhegan area now have access to faster internet, thanks to an $8.8 million grant funded in part by federal dollars.

Local officials, business lead­ers and community members will celebrate Mapleton’s new distinction as a Gig Town at a ribbon cutting on Nov. 29, fol­lowing the completion of Consolidated’s new all-fiber network serving the communi­ty.
