The town of Fayette will join Wilton and numerous other rural towns in Franklin County and Maine in its push to bring rural communities up to speed with broadband coverage through the Maine Connectivity Authority's grant programs.
It took a long time for high-speed internet to reach Great Diamond Island and its slightly southwestern counterpart, Little Diamond Island. When funding was approved last spring to bring fiber optic technology to the communities' 255 or so residents, the news was greeted with jubilation.
The availability of high-speed internet has become one of the driving factors in attracting new residents to settle in the Monadnock region, giving some towns a competitive advantage for people who work or attend school remotely.
Access to high speed Internet access is expanding in the Androscoggin Valley with service soon to be available to more than 8,300 homes in Berlin, Gorham, Randolph, and Shelburne. idium Fiber is installing the new lines and constructing the fiber network now.
Fidium, a fiber internet service, is now available to residents in Fairfax and Fletcher. More than 2,200 area homes and businesses can now access Fidium's multi-gig speed fiber internet service and enjoy a high-speed broadband connection.
Fidium Fiber, a brand from Consolidated Communications Holdings, Inc, have announced they will be expanding their services to more than 6,800 homes and businesses in Livermore, Wilton, Chesterville, Dixfield, Fayette and Jay regions.
