The Southern Vermont Communications Union District (SoVT CUD) is marking becoming "one of the first CUDs in the state to reach universal service coverage."
Recent Fidium Fiber expansion in Colchester, Vt. has lowered the state's last count of "unserved" and "underserved" addresses in Colchester by 35%, leaving 66 addresses remaining "unserved" or "underserved."
More than 11,000 homes and businesses in the Skowhegan area now have access to faster internet, thanks to an $8.8 million grant funded in part by federal dollars.
The city will soon be designated as a Gig Town.
A "Gig Town" event will be held Nov. 15 in Eagle Lake to celebrate the community's connection to high-speed fiber internet access.
Attendees at this breakfast organized by the Chamber of Commerce offices in Charleston and Mattoon also heard from Consolidated Communications that 100% of locations within the city limits of those two communities and Oakland now have access to 2G fiberoptic highspeed internet service.
